The Perfect Dog I Ever Have

There's a lot of talk about how to raise the perfect puppy or dog. Do they exist? Its all what we want to know. I suppose the answer is a bit like… is there a perfect person? Of course, the answer to that is… Nope!

However there are some pretty great folks out there, and there are some really amazing puppies and dogs too. So what’s the catch? This is my best advice.

Before you decide about going to puppy and dog school and learning how to do high-fives, roly-polies and the commando crawl, ask yourself this… Is this what my dream puppy does? Is my dream puppy basically a performing ape whom I wheel out when visitors come around so they can say “Wow that’s amazing, how awesome is he…How did you train him to do that…” and so on and so forth.

The truth is that in many of these cases the next thing that the puppy and dog owner has to do is warn the visitors  this “Now…don’t go near his food bowl when he’s eating, and careful when you pat him not to go near his head, and keep the children away from his toys..!”

It’s mind boggling isn’t it? We spend so much time and effort focusing on how to do commands such as sit and stay but never even think about some of the most really important thing. And when we do it's often too late. Want to know why this is so? Because most professional dog trainers are stuck doing what everyone else is doing… And that’s training the sit, the down and the stay!

Yup, That’s right. Its like sheep, everyone following each other and nobody asking WHY? Think about it… has a puppy or as dog ever been put to sleep (yes you are right, I am talking about euthanized) for reason that they didn't do a proper sit? Or because their down command was a bit slow? Or because they had a poor stay? Of course not… nobody really cares about that stuff. Yet that’s what we all learn at canine school! WHY?!

But… Aggression? Oh Boy,Oh My. More puppies and dogs are put to sleep for aggression, barking, growling, and challenging than any other reason. Aggressive to children, owners, strangers – its all unpleasant news. There is nothing more extremely dangerous than an out of control dog, pulling you along on the leash, ignoring you when you let them off.

Never mind the danger to themselves around cars and other dogs. Yet so few professional dog trainers show you how to prevent all of this, for the reason that very few actually understand it themselves!

Most dog owners real idea of a perfect dog, in no particular order, will include all of the following 5 important behaviors:

 1. Calm around all other animals including dogs

 2. Friendly to all people including children

3. Relaxed and obedient around the home

4. Amazing at coming when called at the park

5. A real angel when walking on the leash in public

Stop… I can hear you thinking….You’ve got a point! Let me guess your next question… So how do we achieve it? Well the great news is that it's not difficult and  complicated. At least it's not complicated or tricky anymore…

5 Of The Most Typical Dog Health Problems

Family pet health

For every single dog owner, the health of their animal is necessary. While it's impossible to totally keep your dog illness free, there are some common dog illness that can be acknowledged early on. In order to understand your dog better, be able to acknowledge the symptoms and signs of these 5 common diseases.

Ear infections

Probably the most common disease for dogs is ear infections. These are caused by allergies, ear mites, bacteria, and other irritants. Most dogs will get some sort of ear infection, especially dogs with larger ears.

If your dog starts to shake its head and scratches its ears frequently, check to see if the ear canal is red and swollen. This probably means its developed an ear infection if so. The good news is that ear infections are easy to clear up. Cleaning and medicating the ear regularly will soon get your dog back to its happy state!

Harmful worms

Another fairly common problem for dogs is worms. These internal parasites are difficult to notice, but can be harmful and even fatal for some dogs like puppies. There are a few signs that can indicate your dog has worms such as diarrhea, weight loss, a dry coat, a change in appetite, and an overall poor appearance.

To diagnose at home is difficult, so be sure to take a dog to the vet when not sure if the dog may have worms. If worm infestation is suspected at an early stage then promt treatment is usually very effective.

Fleas and more fleas

As any dog owner knows, keeping your dog flea free is a challenge. While topical medications keep them at bay, a new pet or forgetting to use the medication will put your dog at risk for this health problem. It probably does if you think your dog has fleas.

Excessive scratching, hair loss, flea dirt, and hair loss are common symptoms of fleas in a dog. Since untreated fleas can cause further health problems for a dog, talk to a vet about flea medication for a dog. Generally this will include a flea bath and then using a topical medication every few months that will keep fleas away.

Those hot spots

One health problem that you may not think of is hot spots. This is a medical term for bare, inflamed areas on a dog's body that show up periodically. This is actually dermatitis generally caused by a bacterial skin infection.

Since hot spots are caused by a variety of other problems like fleas, there isn't generally one recommended treatment. Generally, a vet will recommend antibiotics or a topical medication that will give relief in the area so that the dog avoids chewing or scratching it. Generally hot spots will clear up within a few weeks with treatment.

Vomiting

Finally, vomiting is a common health problem in dogs. There are dozens of possible causes that range from an infection, heat stroke, and even poisoning. Since many dogs will vomit up their stomach's contents after getting into something like the trash, generally they can be left alone.

If a dog has blood in the vomit, is lethargic, or continues to vomit, seek out a vet as this is a sign of a severe problem.

Early treatment

These are 5 major dog health problems and some of the common causes and treatments. Most of these problems are mild and are treated effectively at home or with the help of a vet.

A Few Important Facts Dog Owners Should Know About Dog Training tools

Dog Training Tools

You may think that dog training aids are out there for you to spend money and not actually reap any benefits from. Dog training aids are there to help you succeed in teaching your dog, this could be teaching him obedience, agility or any other type of teaching you want to do.

I find the best training aid to be treats, small pieces of human food chopped up and given to him when he has done something good has always worked wonders, that is unless your dog doesn't really have an interest in treats. This is a really cheap method of a training aid but if you want to blow some cash there are hundreds of options available for you.

For dog agility training aids that are available are e.g. anti bark collars. When they do dog agility, many dogs have a problem. They start barking constantly basically because of the hype involved. Anti bark collars do one of two things or sometimes both, they give a small electric charge when your dog barks and spray some water up into their face. People may think this is cruel but it is completely harmless. It just lets your dog know that barking is not acceptable. These collars are available at pet shops and on the internet and are not too expensive.

For dog obedience some dog training aids that are available are dog clickers, the newest craze out on the market which allows owners instead of associating sit with a word they use a click instead and reward with treats, no punishment allowed. Another aid available is a harness; this gets fitted around your dog's upper body so when you are teaching him to heel a slight tug on the harness pulls him back completely. The harness is a widely used obedience aid and is greatly used for bigger dogs such as German shepherds and Rottweilers.

There are also dog training aids available for around the home. These are effective and simple. Many people turn to dog training aids when nothing else has worked but they don't have to be the last thing you try, with aids so cheap these days there is no reason why you can't invest in something that will make your dogs learning process a lot more exciting!!
